No. 8 Lakehead cruise to 72-53 victory over Badgers

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (8-12 OUA) came out cold in the fourth quarter as the No. 8 Lakehead Thunderwolves took advantage and cruised to a 72-53 victory at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Saturday night.

The Badgers trailed 45-40 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter it was all Lakehead, as they put together a 20-5 run including three straight three-pointers to lead by as many as 20 points with three minutes remaining 65-45.

Leading the Thunderwolves offense was Yoosrie Salhia who registered a double-double finishing with a game high 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jamie Searle contributed with 16 points including four three-pointers while Brendan King added 14 points including a monstrous dunk midway through the final quarter. 

Senior Mike Cruickshank (Toronto, Ont.) led the Badgers with 13 points  while Clinton Springer-Williams (London, Ont.)  added 11 points despite going just 2-for-11 from the field.

The Brock starting five shot a dismal 9-for-36 (25.0%) from the field while Lakehead's starters were 18-for-41 (43.9%). The Thunderwolves outrebounded Brock 46-27 including 15 boards at the offensive end. 40 of the 72 T-Wolves points came in the paint as they outscored Brock 40-8 in that category. 

The Badgers next action is Wednesday, February 17th at 8pm when they travel to Laurier in a must win game to keep their playoff hopes alive.
