No. 8 Thunderwolves roll past Badgers


ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (8-11 OUA West) lost to the No. 8 nationally ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves by the score of 64-45 Friday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

The Badgers were without three starters including their top two scorers Clinton Springer-Williams and Didi Mukendi. Joel Whitty missed his eighth consecutive game.

Lakehead went on an 18-0 run in the opening five minutes and led 35-20 at the half after shooting 50.0% (13-for-26) from the field including 6-for-9 (66.7%) from beyond the arc. Brock shot a dismal 23.5% in the first half going just 8-for-34 from the field.

Leading the Thunderwolves offense was Yoosrie Salhia who recorded 14 points and eight rebounds. Jamie Searle contributed with 12 points while Ryan Thompson and Greg Carter chipped in with nine points each in the victory.

For the Badgers, junior Andrew Ferguson (St. Catharines, Ont.) recorded 10 points.

As a team, the Thunderwolves shot 52.1% (25-for-48) from the field while going 53.3% (8-for-15) from three-point land. The Badgers finished with a dismal 25.4% (16-for-63) from the floor.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, February 13th at 8pm when they end the weekend series against the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
