Men's Basketball falls to No. 9 ranked Windsor
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball
team (7-7 OUA West) dropped a 61-57 decision to the No. 9 ranked
Windsor Lancers at home Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers trailed 36-24 at the half, before going on a 13-0 run
to open the third quarter leading 37-36 with five minutes left in
the third.
In the fourth quarter, the teams would exchange baskets early on.
With the score tied 50-50 with just over six minutes remaining, the
Lancers would answer with back-to-back three pointers from Matt
Hansor and Andre Smyth. Next trip down the court, Greg Surmacz
would lay it in putting Windsor up 58-50 with 3:20 left.
The Badgers would battle from behind late on a three pointer from
freshman Joel Whitty (St. Catharines, Ont.) making it a one
possesion game 60-57 with four second left.
Windsor's Cory Boswell would knock down one of two from the charity
stripe to seal the victory.
Brock had two players in double figures led by freshman Didi
Mukendi (St. Catharines, Ont.) who registered 17 points and four
assists. Whitty contributed with 11 points in the loss.
Leading the Lancers was Surmacz who recorded the double double
adding 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Brock continued to struggle from the field shooting just 28.2%
(20-for-71) which included 17.4% (4-for-23) from beyond the arc.
Windsor shot 44.4% (24-for-54) from the floor.
