Brock men's fencing team competes in OUA Championship
KINGSTON, Ont. - The Brock University men’s fencing team competed in the OUA Fencing Championships held at Queen's University February 11-12.
The Golden Gaels and Toronto Varsity Blues finished the championships in a tie for first place. A tiebreaker with one competitor from each team competing in each weapon was held and the Gaels were crowned the 2011-12 OUA champions.
For the Badgers in the Men's Epee Individual event, Max Merilovich finished 19th, Mathew Dunlop was 20th, Victor Shishkov was 32nd and Stefan Rutland was 41st.
The top Badgers in the Men's Foil Individual, was Sean Boyle (12th), Darren Hoiting (31st), Garret Glasbergen (32 nd), and Patrick Rodriguez (39th).
In the Men's Sabre Individual, the Badgers had Ken Dalton in 27th, Alexander Preston in 31st, Pieter Van Staalduinen in 32nd, and Kyle St. Aubin in 38th.
The Badgers Team Epee finished 11th with Merilovich, Dunlop, Shishkov and Vincenzo Coia.
The Badgers Team Foil with Sean Boyle, Hioting, Glasbergen and Rodriguez finished 10th.
The Badgers Team Sabre with Dalton, Alexander, Van Staalduinen and St. Aubin had a ninth-place finish.
