Brock baseball defeats St. Clair Saints 8-1

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team improved to 2-0 at the 2011 Labour Day Classic as they defeated the St. Clair College Saints 8-1 Friday night at Community Park.

In his Brock debut, newcomer Taylor Boyle (St. Catharines, Ont.) threw five shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out four to earn his first career victory. Coming in to close out the game in a none save situation was sophomore Jordan Vecchiarelli (Newmarket, Ont.), who threw two innings, allowing one run while striking out four.

Offensively sophomore Shaun Valeriote (Guelph, Ont.) registered his fifth hit of the day going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double and one RBI. Freshman Tim Lawson (Oakville, Ont.) went 2-for-3, with two runs scored, and senior Craig Jacques (Delhi, Ont.) chipped in with two hits going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Badgers will now take on the McMaster Marauders at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at Burger Park in Welland. The Marauders are currently 1-1 in the tournament.
