Baseball advances to National Championship Final
WINDSOR, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team have advanced to the CIBA National Championship Final as they defeated the Concordia Stingers by the score of 3-0 Sunday morning. The Badgers will take on the McGill Redmen who knocked off the No. 1 ranked Durham Lords in the other semi-final.
Freshman standout Justin Ayles (Brampton, Ont.) was lights out once again, this time in a starting role, going six strong innings allowing no runs on just two hits with five strikeouts. Kurtis Robinson (Mississauga, Ont.) came on in the seventh retiring the side for the save.
Once again leading the Brock offense was Shaun Valeriote (Guelph, Ont.) who went 2-for-3 with a two run homer in the bottom of the third. He currently ranks among tournament leaders batting .583 (7-for-12) with four RBI, a homerun and a double. Two hits this morning also gives him 50 on the season (50-for-101, .495).
Cameron Graham (Sarnia, Ont.) continued to swing a hot bat at the Nationals going 2-for-3 with a solo shot in the second. Craig Jacques (Delhi, Ont.), Daniel Forte (Mississauga, Ont.) and Peter Benvenuto all added one hit each in the victory.
