Baseball places second at CIBA National Championships

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Brock University baseball ended the 2010 season with a 12-9 loss to the McGill Redmen in the National Championship game Sunday afternoon in Windsor. The Badgers finish the season with an impressive 26-12 overall record including their third OUA Championship.

McGill outhit the Badgers 13-7 which included a six run third that the Badgers would never recover from. The Redmen had four players with multiple-hit performances led by the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player Channing Arndt who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. He finished the tournament with a .571 average going 12-for-21 with eight RBI. 

Alexander Day was also 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Josh Gordon went 2-for-4 with three RBI with Casey Auerbach rounding out the McGill leaders going 2-for-5 with two runs scored. 

Leading the Badgers was Garrett Fisher (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, earning Player of the Game honours. Justin Parro (Brooklin, Ont.), Shaun Valeriote (Guelph, Ont.), Daniel Forte (Mississauga, Ont.) and Matt Kissel (Whitby, Ont.) all added one hit each in the loss.

Brock starter Steve Hough (Brampton, Ont.) suffered the loss lasting just 2 1/3 innings allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. McGill's LJ Aguinaga picked up the victory after throwing 4 2/3 innings allowing four runs (one earned) on two hits with four walks. 

In his first season with the Badgers, Valeriote had one of the best single season's in school history batting .490 going 51-for-104. At the Nationals he finished second in batting going 8-for-15 (.533) with four RBI and six runs scored.
