Baseball sweeps Genesee CC
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (3-2 OUA, 6-3 Overall) swept the Genesee CC Cougars in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Community Park.
In Game One, the Badgers bats were on fire as they cruised to an easy 10-3 victory, scattering 10 hits over seven innings. Game Two, was a lower scoring affair, but Brock was still able to hold off the Cougars and capture a 3-1 win.
For the Badgers in Game One, junior pitcher Steve Hough (Brampton, Ont.) was awarded the win, pitching two innings, allowing one run on three hits.
The Badgers offensive attack was led by sophomore Matt Kissel (Whitby, Ont.) who was 2-for-3 with two RBI and freshman Bill Steven (Fonthill, Ont.) who went 2-for-4 with a career high three RBI.
Senior Mike Walker (Guelph, Ont.) extended his hit streak to eight games going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Walker is closing in on top ten on the all-time Badgers hit list and with his double today he surpasses Brock Baseball Hall of Fame Matt Fletcher for 7th all-time in career doubles with 32.
In Game Two, the Badgers sent a committee of pitchers to the mound and picking up the win was junior Robert Bouchard (Harrow, Ont.).
Leading the Badgers offensively was junior Justin Parro (Brooklin, Ont.) who was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and an RBI and Walker who went 1-for-3 with a run batted in. In nine games this season, Walker is now 19-for-34 with a team leading .559 average.
Earning the save for Brock was sophomore righthander Wade Babula who pitched a scoreless 7th inning, sitting down the three Cougar batters he faced in order.
The Badgers next action is Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm when they play host to OUA arch rival Western Mustangs.
