ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team improved to 4-2 in the preseason as they defeated the Niagara College Knights by the score of 98-68 as part of the annual Peninsula Hoops Classic Saturday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers led 44-33 at the half and held a 69-56 lead after three quarters. In the final quarter, Niagara would bring the score within 11, but it was the Badgers offense going on a 21-7 run over a five minute span, leading 90-65 with just over four minutes left in regulation.
Brock had four players reach double figures led by
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) who went 10-for-15 from the field, adding a game high 21 points and seven rebounds.
Nolan Mackenzie (Oakville,Ont.) added 19 points and four assists while
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, Ont.) and
Zachary Angelini (Hamilton, Ont.) chipped in with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Leading Niagara were Marako Lundy and Alex Elliott who contributed with 18 and 15 points respectively in the loss. Lundy was not happy with a call late in the contest and was issued back-to-back technical fouls.
For the game, Brock shot 52.2% from the field going 35-for-67. They were also 42.9% (9-for-21) from long range and 82.6% (19-for-23) from the charity stripe. Niagara went 23-for-69 (33.3%) from the field, 10-for-23 (43.5%) from three-point land and 12-for-23 (52.2%) from the free throw line.
The Badgers return to action October 8-10 when they travel to Manitoba for three preseason games.
