Van Bakel and Martinow named Henley Honda Athletes of the Week

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University Henley Honda Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the Week ending September 20th is baseball player Matt Martinow (Simcoe, Ont.) and women's soccer player Cassandre Van Bakel (Aurora, Ont.).

Van Bakel, a third year Fine Arts major, helped lead the No. 4 ranked Badgers to a 1-0-1 record this past weekend. In two games she recorded three goals as she became the Badgers all-time leading scorer in school history. In her first two seasons she was among the top 10 in OUA scoring and this season is tied for second in conference scoring. In her career Van Bakel now has 15 career goals.

Martinow, a fourth year Physical Education major, put together a strong week both as a starter and reliever. Versus Guelph, Martinow pitched a complete game allowing two runs (one earned) with a career high 10 strikeouts. He also recorded the save in the Badgers road victory over Toronto on Tuesday, his second of the season.
