Svidnytskiy and Samborski named Henley Honda Brock Athletes of the Week
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University Henley Honda Athletes
of the Week for the week ending February 14th are women's hockey
player Maja Samborski (Toronto, Ont.) and men's fencer Tim
Svidnytskiy (Aurora, Ont.).
Svidnytskiy, a third year Physical Education major, captured gold in Men's Epee at the 2010 OUA Fencing Championships. After going undefeated in the initial round robin bouts, he went on to direct elimination and defeated Danny Jang of Queens 15-8 and Liam Roach of RMC 15-14. Svidnytskiy took home the individual gold and the Robert Desjarlais Trophy by defeating last year's OUA champion Mark Jones from Western 15-11 in the finals.
Samborski, a second year Sport Management major, led the Brock women's hockey team to a 1-1 record this past week including a 5-3 must win victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues. Versus the Blues, Samborski added her second and third goals of the season including the game winner on the power play.
