Toale, Cowal, and Euiler named Brock Athletes of the Week
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University Male and Female
Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 2nd are men's
soccer player Ryan Toale (Brampton, Ont.) and women's rowers Laura
Cowal (Thorold, Ont.) and Liz Euiler (Meredith, N.H.) who earn
co-female honours.
Toale, a fourth year history major, helped lead the Brock men's
soccer team to a 0-0-3 record this past week posting a 1.00 GAA
with 15 saves for an .833 save percentage. In 920 minutes of action
this season, which leads the OUA, Toale has posted a 3-4-3 record
with a 1.47 GAA and three shutouts.
Cowal, a fifth year music major, captured a gold and bronze at the
Head of the Trent this past weekend. She captured gold in the
heavyweight single in a time of 24:52.95. She also teamed up with
Britt Ellis in the heavy women’s double placing third overall
in a time of 16:26.98.
She is a recent graduate of Michigan State University. In July,
Cowal competed for Canada in the Under-23 World Rowing
Championships in Amsterdam bringing home gold in the women’s
eight boat.
Cowal finished her career at MSU as the Big Ten Athlete of the
Year and earned First Team All-Big Ten and All-American accolades.
She also was part of four consecutive Big Ten Varsity Eight
titles.
Euiler, a fifth year kinesiology major, also captured a gold and
bronze at the Head of the Trent Regatta on Saturday. She captured
gold in the lightweight single in a time of 24:45.65. Euiler was
also part of the lightweight women’s eight that finished
third in 20:58.60.
She is a former NCAA Division I rower from the University of
Massachusetts. In 2011, Euiler was named to the Atlantic 10
All-Conference First Team. She led her UMass crew to a first place
finish in the lightweight four event at the 2011 Dad Vail
Regatta.
